School Profile of Changchun Polytechnic

 With the rapid development of economy and society in Changchun city of Jilin Province, and in order to integrate the resources, to accelerate the development of vocational education, and to provide high-skilled professional personnel for regional economic and social development, in 2000, Changchun municipal government set up an "Urban Vocational" ------Changchun Polytechnic, which focused on the higher vocational education, social training and certification education.

The institute covers 578 acres, building area of 245,000 square meters. It has 862 staff, 10,200 full-time students, and people in the community training over million. According to the demand of Dominant pillar industries such as cars, agricultural products processing, rail transportation equipment, optical information, tourism and logistics, etc in Jilin Province and Changchun City, institute has set up eight branches, 45 professional enrollments: the car, engineering, food, information, tourism, commerce, international exchange, continuing education, for 22 provinces all over the country.

Our institute takes the scientific development concept as the guide, follows the principle based on content development, and has established the educational philosophy as "Morality first, strong energy based, highlighting features and harmonious development", and has condensed the "Fine Morality and Fine Skills" as the core of the campus culture. Following the laws of the market and rules of vocational education, our institution has formed a “diversified government-dominant” educational mode with the government-led, industry guidance, enterprise participation. it explored the school and enterprise mixture, work-study combination “5 joint” talents cultivation mode, that is, “determining talents cultivation goal, making talents cultivation plans, implementing teaching construction, making practical teaching management, completing post skill test jointly by school and enterprise”, which enabling the combination of talents cultivation and utilization, realizing the unification of talents cultivation standards and demands by school and enterprises, the unification of curriculum and professional qualification standards and technical requirements, and the unification of Academic certificates and professional qualifications, vocational education and lifelong education. The employment rate of students remains 95% for 5 successive years, 92% employer satisfaction rate. The graduates’ jobs entered the top 50 in employment quality among the national high colleges.

The institute possesses sufficient teaching resources, with 453 full-time staff members, among them 34 professors and 176 associate professors, 88% of them are “bi-qualification” teachers. The institute establishes 2 national excellent teaching teams, 6 provincial excellent teaching teams; it has some famous teacher as profession leaders such as national star teacher Prof. Lu Jiafu, provincial star teacher Li Mingge and Wang Xiaodong etc. In addition, based on the specialty characteristic, the institute engaged 245 “skillful craftsman” from production lines in industries and enterprises as part-time teachers.

Closely cooperating with enterprises, further promoting educational reform, our institute has formed three-tier major construction system with the automobile technical service and marketing, biotechnology, and applications, numerical control technology, software technology, travel management five national key professional as a leader, professional pilot and the provincial hospital level model of professional expertise for the construction as support, which achieved the overall improvement of the level of personnel training. The professional construction of the institute is obvious. Now it has 1 second prize of national teaching achievements, 6 provincial teaching achievements awards; 5 national key construction specialties, 11 provincial model and pilot specialties;8 Provincial characteristics of professional groups ; 7 national quality courses, 18 quality courses of the Education Directing Committee of Ministry of Education, and 9 provincial quality courses.

The institute implements the revitalizing school strategy through scientific research. It has 4 research institutes, making 48 technical service research and developments, wining 8 national patents, setting up 203 horizontal and vertical subject projects of all levels and types. It published 786 papers, and won 203 scientific research achievement awards and education research award 381.

The institute has completed teaching facilities; the total value of the teaching equipment is RMB 110 million. It established 10 on campus practical bases integrating teaching, training, scientific research, production, technical services, among them; there is 5 national demonstration NC workshops for practice, 5 workshops for practicing supported by the state finance, which can hold 3,000 people for test, practical training and practice simultaneously. All the workshops for practicing passed the international quality management system attestation of ISO 9000: 2000. Meanwhile, the institute set up 358 stable off campus practical bases. The students’ post practice rate reached 100% for over half year.

Our institute is a national training base for E & M high-skilled talent, training units for professional teachers in Hong Kong China Foundation fund, vocational teacher training center in Jilin Province, Changchun City, and also the re-employment and the rural labor force training center. The institute has German Audi Training center, national computer foreign language level test place of Ministry of Education, vocational skills appraisal institute and other international and domestic training certification bodies, which can attest skill training and vocational qualification attestation for 58 projects under 8 categories, with person-time of annual social training over 10,000, and the “Double Certificate Rate” for graduates reached 92%.

The institute won the title of “Advanced Unit of National Vocational Education”, “Star Model School for National Higher Vocational Colleges employment”, “Advanced Unit in the Service to Revitalize Old Industrial Base”, “50-top National Collegiate Employment” “Jilin Province Spiritual Civilization Unit”, “Changchun May Day Labor Awards”, “Changchun Municipal People's satisfaction school”. In 2007, it passed the talents training level appraisal for higher vocational and senior talents by the Ministry of Education and the evaluation of “Excellence”. July 2010, it was recognized as the national one hundred top modal vocational colleges by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance.Many parties and state leaders have inspected our institute and given highly evaluation.
